Elysium has two types of musical content: short percussive sounds and long sustained sounds. Today we're going to focus on some of the best sounding convolution reverbs Elysium has to offer for the percussive variety.
There are two types of reverb: algorithmic and convolution. Algorithmic reverbs have a notoriously hard time with transient sounds, because they use delay lines that need time to bloom into a reverb. By the time it's bloomed, your transient is already gone.
In order to faithfully reproduce your transients in your reverbs, convolution reverb is a great place to look.
There are over 700 convolution reverb impulse responses in Elysium – here are our favorites for use on percussive sounds:
Real Rooms
Real Rooms emulate spaces you may commonly hear musical instruments in.
Club B

Club B adds vibe, nice air and focuses the response across the frequency spectrum.
Hard Wood Room B

Definitely one of the further-sounding reverbs, but adds a seductive shimmer to the late reflections.
Rehearsal Room

Sounds like your average, raw room. Lots of high end damping and low end boosting, while still adding a sense of medium room.
BRT7
BRT7 is based on the venerable Bricasti BM7 Reverb unit.
Ambience Small

Accentuates transients and adds focus by slightly cutting lower frequencies. Diffuses late reflections.
Drum Reverbs
Small Booth

Smooths out mid-high frequencies while keeping a sense of space available. Short and sweet.
Tiny Rooms
Bass Space

One of our favorites. If you're looking for low-end focus but all other reverbs are washing out your sound, look no further. Bass starts round in early reflections but gets out of the way in the late reflections.
Drew's Small Room

We don't know Drew, but we love his room sound. Adds a focus to the mid high frequencies to cut through a mix.
Special Effects (Mix)
Special effect convolutions are creative impulse responses with an unexpected effect. They can prove to be unruly, but also can be interesting sound design tools. Here are a couple to try:
Dry Ice

A reverse impulse response that gives the sound a fade-in attack. Can sometimes have a metallic bowing quality.
Vinyl Liftoff

Also adds a reverse impulse, but has a filter resonance motion that gives the sound some WOW.
With the release of Elysium, we're excited to bring you 26 great effects right in our instrument to save time on mixing. But going even further, we've added over 100 presets as well to bring eclectic sounds quickly to your workflow. Stay tuned for more spotlights on some of our favorite features.
